With only 3 ingredients these are very simple Thermomix scones! And they can even be on the table before your guests knock on the door. The scones have a nice crispy outer layer and a beautiful, soft inside. Based off something my Nan used to serve us, I challenge you to take 30 minutes after cooking time to enjoy yourself a nice Devonshire tea!
Now I am sure you're wondering about the picture! Well there is a story to that. I was visiting my friend Julie for her to "test my recipe". When we were setting up the table for a photo her gorgeous 4 year old daughter asks:
"Mummy can you take a photo of my scones too?"
So we took a photo and I really love it and the memory attached, so I attached it here!
Thinking on this - this recipe would be perfect for the little chefs to get in and help. Serve these cones with my Lime and Ginger Curd or Passionfruit Curd or Lemon Curd. For yummy jam to put on your scones try my Berry Cherry Jam and my Monkey Jam recipes.
Ingredients
- 400g self raising flour
- 40g butter, cubed, softened
- 220g milk
- milk, for top of scones
- cream (to serve on top)
- jam (to serve on top)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 210°C.
- Place flour and butter into TM bowl and mix 10 sec / speed 4.
- Add milk and mix 5 sec / speed 4.
- Knead 30 sec / interval.
- Tip out onto Thermomix mat or floured bench.
- Lightly knead together then LIGHTLY push out to be 2-5cm thick (more to the thicker side gives a fluffier scone)
- Use a scone cutter or a glass to cut scones. Try to get as close to the edge of each scone hole when cutting to avoid having to knead the dough (my glass is 6.5cm in diameter).
- Place scones onto baking tray lined with baking paper, placing around 1-2 cm apart.
- Lightly brush scones with milk.
- Bake in oven for 10-15 mins. Check them after 10 mins.
- Take out of oven and wrap in a clean dry tea towel and let sit for 5 mins.

Ann Double says
THANKYOU for this simple recipe. Do they freeze well? Cheers
thermofun says
Ann I haven't frozen them myself (never any left! lol!) but I can't see why they would not freeze well. :)
Katy says
Just wondering about changing the flour to GF SR flour? What changes to the recipe would i need to make? I so want to eat some scones but need mine to be Gluten Free :(
thermofun says
Hey Katy, I would say the only change would be to swap the flour for GF SR flour and it would be the same amount. Enjoy! :)

Why has this recipe only got a 3 star rating. These are the best scones I have ever made and it is now my "go to" recipe. Love them!
thermofun says

Marilyn says
I just made these scones absolutely delicious just like my nana used to make an nan always wrapped hers in a tea towel afterwards
thermofun says
Thank you Marilyn, I'm so pleased I brought back happy memories for you. :)
Lesley Kirkham says
I like sultanas in my scones. Would this work with sultanas and when would you add them ?
thermofun says
Lesley adding sultanas would be great! I'd add them with the milk in method 3 - but then mix it with Reverse on. :)
Rebekah says
I want to create a chocolate choc chop version. Any advice please ?
thermofun says
Hi Rebekah, I would suggest adding 1 Tbsp cacao powder to the dry ingredients and then add a cup of Choc chips. Enjoy! :)
Sharon Wilson says
Made this scones for the first time yesterday and they were a massive hit! Thank you! Super quick and easy, really light and fluffy. The boys have requested them after school again today!

First time I have ever made scones & they were easy and yummy thanks.
Louise says
Is it cold block butter in cubes or does it have to be soft cubes?
Thanks
thermofun says
Louise better with softened butter - I have now updated the recipe. :)
Jillian Bath says
Step 4 under 'method '- Knead / interval. I am a beginner and cannot find Knead or Interval. Can you explain this please? Thanks in anticipation.
thermofun says
Hi Jillian, knead/interval is the wheat symbol on your TM.
Jill says
Where would we find this wheat symbol??
thermofun says
Jill if you have a TM5 it is in between the scales and the reverse symbols.
Mary Fereday says
Sounds good will try
Traceeanna says
I've never heard to wrap scones before, straight out of the oven?
thermofun says
Yes not only does wrapping them in a tea towel keep them warm, but it keeps them fluffy on the inside and will give them a soft crust. :)
Jenny says
Why cut them with a cutter when you can just cut them into squares..no need to knead again!
thermofun says
Yes I often do that too Jenny - pour into a 'slab' and then cut with a knife. :)
