These thermomix Sesame Falafels with Tahini Garlic Sauce are so packed full of flavour, so filling and so easy to make - and a super bonus - great for kids/adult lunches! :)
Paired with this Tahini Garlic Sauce and served on warm pita bread = DELICIOUS!
Can also be served with a beautiful greek salad, hummus, or a cucumber dipping sauce which you could spice up with a little hot sauce.
The possibilities are endless, but however you choose to enjoy these sesame falafels you will be coming back for more!
These are truly a great vegetarian option for the menu plan or even as a weekend lunch/brunch.

You know what I love the most about these? The joy and surprise for kids having them the first time and seeing them green before they are cooked! I know some of the ThermoFunkies kids will get a great laugh and surprise.

Ingredients
Falafel
- 375g dried chickpeas
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled
- 1 onion, peeled and halved
- 1 bunch parsley, top leaf section only, discard any thick stems
- 1 bunch coriander, top leaf section only, discard any thick stems
- 20g lemon juice
- 100g sesame seeds
- 2 teaspoon (heaped) cumin, ground
- 1 teaspoon (heaped) coriander, ground
- ½ teaspoon chilli, powder
- 100g plain flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon bi-carb soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- oil for deep frying
Tahini Sauce
- 40g lemon juice
- 30g olive oil
- 30g water
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled
- 120g sesame seeds
- 1½ teaspoon cumin, ground
- ⅓ teaspoon chilli, ground
- ½ teaspoon salt and pepper, to taste
- 80g yoghurt
Instructions
- Rinse chickpeas and place them into a large bowl. Cover generously with cool water. Soak for min. 6 hours or overnight. Add water to the bowl if soaked up during this time. Drain any excess water prior to use.
- Place garlic, onion, fresh parsley and coriander and chop 5 sec / speed 5. Add drained chickpeas and lemon juice and mix 8 sec / speed 6. Scrape down.
- With aid of spatula turn the mixture over and then mix 8 sec / speed 6. Scrape down and repeat.
- Add sesame seeds, cumin, coriander, flour, baking powder, bi-carb and salt and mix 15 sec / speed 4 / Reverse.
- With aid of spatula turn the mixture over and then mix 15 sec / speed 4 / Reverse until well combined.
- Using heaped teaspoon amounts, make balls with the mixture the size of a golf ball.
Cooking Options
- Baking in oven - prior to rolling the mixture into balls, preheat oven to 180°C. Place rolled balls onto a lined baking tray and bake for 20-25 mins until golden brown.
- Deep frying - make sure your oil is medium/hot before carefully lowering approx. 4 balls at a time into the oil. Fry until golden brown, remove with a slotted spoon and allow to drain on paper towels.
Tahini Sauce
- Place all ingredients into TM bowl and blend into a creamy sauce 30 sec / speed 6. Scrape down and repeat three times.
Notes
Serving Suggestion: serve with the Tahini Garlic Sauce, salad and pita bread.
Tip: leftovers are great reheated in the microwave and flattened into a wrap with dressing and salad. Can also be eaten cold in lunchbox with a side of hommus.
