Krunchy Funky Chicken -
yes think of that acronym (KFC) that appears in most suburbs/towns/cities! A few that have tasted have said, "WOW we won't be going back there anytime soon!" So if you are looking for an alternative to the Colonel's Chicken then you must try this recipe. These Thermomix Krunchy Funky Chicken will have you avoiding the long drive through queues and enjoying dinner at home. :)
How do you come up with the recipe Leonie? Yes I thought that you would ask! Well it just so happens that in our ThermoFunkies member facebook group someone shared a link to a recipe. We all had a giggle that it was leaked by the Colonel's nephew - and quite honestly if the internet says so - then it must be true! lol!! But it got me thinking what would be the harm in giving it a go. I had just bought an Air Fryer so it would be a perfect test dish for it.
Now I am not going to say that this recipe is the original Colonel's secret herb and spices - because obviously if it's on the internet then it's no secret :D but it is a great alternative when you want to serve up a Kentucky fried chicken dish to the family.
We love it with my potato garlic mash and a Greek salad and it's a great dinner option when you don't want to do dinner as it's so quick! I am yet to make an Original Chicken Cheese and Bacon Burger :p but it is on the list to give a go when I feel the need for a little Krunchy Funky Chicken! :D
Let me know what your family thinks!

Ingredients
Spice Mix
- 2 cups flour
- 4 tablespoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon black pepper, ground
- 1 tablespoon celery salt
- 1 tablespoon garlic, powder
- 1 tablespoon ginger, ground
- 1 tablespoon mustard, dried
- 1 tablespoon white pepper
- ½ tablespoon basil
- ½ tablespoon thyme
- ⅓ tablespoon oregano
- ⅓ tablespoon salt
Chicken
- 800g-1000g chicken pieces or fillets sliced
- dash of milk
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C.
- Place all spice mix ingredients into a small bowl and stir to combine. Set aside half and store in an airtight container for future use.
- In a separate bowl, add milk and eggs and beat with a fork.
- Place chicken into egg and then coat the chicken in the flour and spice mix.
- Place chicken into casserole dish for approx 30 mins. If using an air fryer preheat to 180°C and cook approx. 30 mins. Depending on size of chicken pieces/drumsticks adjust cooking time as necessary.
Notes
Make sure you set aside half the batch of spice mix before you start because once you roll the chicken in it you wont be able to reuse it.

Hi
I sorry I don't have an Air Fryer. Can you pls tell me how long in a normal oven & if it's cooked at 180c.
Many thanks Leonie.
Kathleen

Hi Kathleen, the oven is about the same for chicken I find. So definitely 180c and roughly 30 mins (although the time really does depend on how big/thick your pieces of chicken are. Enjoy! :)
