Wow the fourth Thursday of each month seems to come round quicker than the previous one. I can’t believe we are heading towards the end of July.
July for many people means “Dry July” – as yet I’ve never embarked on this personally… one year perhaps, just not this one!… ;)
I really was tempted to share a cocktail with vodka in it. A recipe I included in this months ThermoFun Cook Along was called “Penne Vodka” which everyone on the Cook Along that made it, loved it.
However, out of respect for all that are doing Dry July I will hold off on the vodka cocktail this month for Thirsty Thursday and give you a healthy smoothie which can be whipped up in the Thermomix in a minute instead! ☺
Ingredients
- 2 apples, halved
- 1 banana, peeled
- 2 tablespoon natural yoghurt
- ½ - 1 tablespoon tahini
- 10 ice cubes
- ¼ teaspoon sesame seeds, to sprinkle on top
Instructions
- Place all ingredients into TM bowl (except sesame seeds) and blend 1 min / speed 10.
- Pour into a large glass and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
This smoothie provides a good combination of natural sugars for instant energy and soluble fibre for slow release energy.
Did you know that tahini contains more protein than milk and most nuts. It also is a rich source of vitamin B and E. All the more reason to go and whip up a yummy hummus dip I say! :)
Bananas are high in magnesium and potassium, and apples give a great energy boosting natural sugar hit, with many vitamins and minerals. Apples contain pectin, which helps to remove excess cholesterol and toxic metals from the digestive tract and stimulates friendly bacteria in the large intestine. Perhaps that’s where the ol’ saying of ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’ comes from!
I really enjoyed this smoothie with the hint of tahini in it. I have to admit I’d never thought to put tahini in a smoothie before!
Have you made a smoothie before with an ingredient you would never have thought to put in, but you did and were pleasantly surprised?
