Poached eggs in the Thermomix are just so easy and yummy. I have adjusted this recipe from the new Every Day Cookbook (EDC) – it is not in the old EDC.
So those with the old EDC and don’t know how to do them, this is my tweaked version.
Ingredients
- 1200g boiling water from kettle
- 25g white vinegar
- oil to spray TM simmering basket
- 2 eggs
Instructions
- Pour boiling water and vinegar into TM bowl.
- Spray basket with oil and insert into TM bowl.
- Bring water back to boiling, approx. 2 mins / Varoma / speed 2.
- Crack two eggs into separate containers.
- When varoma temperature light is on – set timer to cook 3 mins / Varoma / speed 2.
- Pour eggs into basket through the hole in TM lid.
- While eggs are cooking, make your toast and get your plate and slotted spoon ready to remove your eggs and serve.
Notes
If you like them very soft and runny 2 minutes works well too!
The secret is that the water MUST be at boiling temperature before putting the eggs in.
Recipe for Hollandaise Sauce is in the Every Day Cookbook and the Basic Cookbook.

Awesome to hear Cheryl! :)
Cory Goodman says
Hmm, maybe I didn't have the water quite boiling. First lot looked like they just sat on the bottom of the basket. The second lot only had the yolks left, all the egg whites leached through the simmering basket.
New tm5 owner. Still trying to work it all out.
thermofun says
Cory for this recipe the boiling water is imperative. I hope you have more success next time. :)
Jessie Burton says

Thank you thank you

Awesome to hear Jessie! Thank you!
Cathy says
Where I am confused is do I put the eggs in the steamer basket from the shell or do I have to put them in a container (say a silicon egg poacher container)?
When I do them free hand I put them straight into the water
thermofun says
Hi Cathy, I crack them into individual small dishes (just avoids getting shell in the TM bowl) and then I tip each egg into the TM bowl in the simmering basket. I hope this makes it clearer for you. :)

cooked 4 eggs today and steamed spinach in the veroma at the some time. Didn't change cooking time and everything turned out beautiful. Thank you for a great recipe.
Sophie says
I love how quick and easy this is to make but I tried 3 eggs at a time and found that they clumped together and one of the yolks actually broke (my guess is when I poured one egg in after another it fell on top and broke...) Is there a way to avoid this?? Thanks :)
thermofun says
Sorry Sophie not really that I'm aware of. The secret is to try and tip them in very carefully - whilst crossing your fingers and toes!! lol! Give it another try. :)
Julie says
Well you have made my day! I have been searching for the best, easiest, simplest, cleanest way to poach our beloved poached eggs, and NOW I have found it!
I have tried just about every recommended way, even bought a stupid little egg poacher, arghhh!
Love, love, love this way I will only be poaching eggs this way from now on! Yahoo!!!!!!
thermofun says
Oh that's so great to hear Julie :) Glad you've found your go to recipe. It's always a great find :)
Diane says
This recipe is fantastic, I've tried the ones with putting the egg in with the shell on & you loose most of the egg white, this recipe works a dream, I'm doing breakfast for 8 tomorrow, how many eggs could I do at a time?
thermofun says
Diane to be honest I've only ever done 4 at a time. Let me know if you do try more and how they go.
Diane says
Thanks, I only did 4 at a time, with the muffins cooking it all worked well, I don't think you could go beyond 4, it would get very messy, I did find for some reason the more eggs the quicker they cooked. Loved the recipe it is a winner
thermofun says
Thanks Diane. :)

Wendy says
It works! Am looking at thermo with whole new interest. I don't love cooking so I'm looking for great results every time.thanks for your site.
thermofun says
Awesome Wendy, pleased to hear you had success! :)
Sue Coles says
Oh I'm looking forward to trying this. I have a poached egg on toast every morning - what a time saver this will be.
Joy says
Tried these after reading the instructions and then going from memory. First 2 eggs - speed too high (sp4) so adjusted that. Husband was cooking the bacon and toast so didn't have time to come back to the laptop.
Next 2 eggs: down to sp 2 but both times had forgotten the vinegar and only had it on 90C not Varoma. The yolks were still perfect but we lost a lot of the white.
So I will try again but it looks very promising. And we enjoyed tonight's dinner.
Thermo_Princess says
I actually got silicon cups for my thermie after much frustration trying to poach eggs. But I tried this and it WORKED PERFECTLY!! Thanks so much! So yummy :)
Robyn says
What time would you need to cook 4 eggs?
thermofun says
I've never done four at one time Robyn. I would say the same amount of time though.
Nikki silk says
Hi, won't the egg yolks break if you pour the eggs into the basket from the hole in the lid or did I read this wrong? Tx
thermofun says
Nikki - you have read it correctly! I too was sceptical - but so far I haven't had a yolk break yet! :)
