    Honey's Chow Recipe

    Jump to recipe

You may recall a few months ago Tania who is a ThermoFun Club Member shared with us the Doggy Meatloaf and the Doggy Treats recipes that she makes in her Thermomix for her dog named Honey.

Would you believe Tania has another recipe for her gorgeous little Honey which she is sharing with us.  I really think I want to be Tania’s dog!!!  Talk about live like a Queen!  :)

    Honey

Here is Tania’s little spiel about her Honey's Chow:

This is a good way to use up bits and pieces of raw and cooked veg in the fridge.  As well as left over cooked rice and maybe some chicken broth left from steaming some chicken. Use a combination of what you have, using the above ingredients as a guide.

Keeps well in a sealed container in the fridge for up to a week. I supplement this with a nutritionally balanced dry dog food.

Sometimes it can be a little more wet than other times and I think it’s because of the mince used.  Some has a higher moisture (water/fat) content.

Once cooled and rested, the rice and meat does absorb a lot of the moisture.

Commercial dog food makers would use thickening agents to make more of a gravy out of that juice. It’s all yummy stuff that the dog will lap up any how. Actually when I feed this to Honey I zap it in the microwave to get the chill off, and usually put it on top of some dried dog food in her bowl.  It’s all gone in a flash! Lol

Adding a handful of chick livers is a great addition too.

    Suitable to freeze.

    • large handful fresh parsley
    • 250g chicken broth
    • 500g beef/chicken/turkey mince
    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup frozen peas and corn mix
    • 1-1½ cups cooked rice

    Instructions

    1. Place carrot, sweet potato and parsley into TM bowl and chop 4 sec / speed 7. Scrape down.
    2. Add chicken broth and cook 8 mins / 100°C / speed 1 / Reverse.

    Notes

Sometimes it can be a little more wet than other times and I think it’s because of the mince used. Some has a higher moisture (water/fat) content.

Thank you for this recipe. It is now the regular food for Ruby, a rescue Maltese Shitzu. When I got her just over a year ago she was very underweight and I struggled to find anything she would eat. I tried so many bought foods with no luck and I was scared because I couldn’t get her weight up. Then I found this and she hasn’t looked back. 💕🐾💕🐾💕

Just made this for my King Charles Cavilier puppy with beef mince and he loved it. Was a little short on the beef quantity so added an extra egg.

Oh my goodness - my two dogs wouldn't leave the kitchen while this was cooking! Delicious! I used turkey mince, sweet potato, carrot , an apple and a zucchini. I didn't use broth and just used 2/3 of a cup of water instead, I also added 2 eggs at the end and cooked them an additional 90secs. Thank you for the fabulous recipe!

The first time I made this, our older Retreiver Zephyr, took a bite then looked up at me, took another and looked at me again as if to say” I can’t believe how yummy this is mum”. I’ve made it with beef and chicken and they both lap it all up. What a great recipe! Our younger dog Ruby inhaled her meal , but really licks her lips afterwards. Thank-you for a wonderful recipe.

I found this quite watery, do you have any advice for this? Could be be because I left the MC on and it didn’t simmer away properly?
      Thank you

Jessica apologies for my delay in replying. Sometimes it can be a little more wet than other times and I think it’s because of the mince used. Some has a higher moisture (water/fat) content. You can use a little more rice in this recipe to bulk it up a little, and it would also help to absorb some extra moisture if you wanted.
Also once cooled and rested, the rice and meat does absorb a lot of the moisture.

So glad I found this recipe. I've been making it with 3 sweet potatoes, 6 carrots, 1 apple and 2 pounds of ground beef for my doggies (they're on a grain-free diet). They LOVE IT! I have one dog that has been very stubborn about eating his kibble for weeks now and another that has throat issues and was having a hard time swallowing the food. Now that I'm giving them 2/3rds this recipe and 1/3 kibble they have been SO excited for dinner time... and their bellies have had no issues with the transition. I feel like such a good dog mom :D Thank you for posting this as it helped me figure out the steps and time for the Thermomix.

I had some beef mince and veggies to use up. So made this for my dogs dinner. They gobbled it down and there is plenty left over for other nights. I’m going to freeze it as I’m worried about the rice as it doesn’t last longer than a few days in the fridge. I have made this before using turkey mince but they loved the beef. Thanks for a great recipe Tania and Leonie. 🐶🐶👍

My jack russell loves this! He is a 7 kg puppy and i give him about 1/4 cup with some dry dog food twice a day. It makes a couple of litres so I may have to freeze some. Thank you for a great pet recipe!
