These meatballs are just so tasty. The teriyaki sauce is fabulous and can be used not only with pork but also chicken or turkey mince. These meatballs are fantastic too for entertaining. Many thanks to a lovely ThermoFun member for sharing this recipe with me which we both enjoyed tweaking a little.
Recipe inspired and tweaked to be made in the Thermomix from https://www.budgetbytes.com/

- 1500g boiling water from kettle
Garnish
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 spring onions, sliced finely
Instructions
Meatballs
- Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a baking tray.
- If you are mincing your meat see my tips below and then set mince aside.
No need to wash TM bowl. - Place bread into TM bowl and crumb 4 sec / speed 6. Set aside.
- Place ginger, garlic and spring onions into TM bowl and chop 3 sec / speed 8.
- Add mince, egg, breadcrumbs, soy sauce and pepper and combine 10 sec / speed 6 / Reverse. Scrape down and repeat. With aid of spatula check all is combined.
- Roll into golf ball size meatballs and place on baking tray.
- Bake approx. 40 mins.
Teriyaki Sauce
- While meatballs are baking, rinse the TM bowl.
- Place ginger into TM bowl and chop 4 sec / speed 8.
- Add remaining sauce ingredients and cook 10 mins / 100°C / speed 1. Pour sauce into preheated ThermoServer.
No need to wash TM bowl.
Steamed Rice & Vegetables
- Pour boiling water into TM bowl. Place rice in simmering basket and rinse under cold tap until water runs clear. Carefully insert basket into TM bowl. Add mixed vegetables to Varoma tray and place assembled Varoma onto TM lid. Cook 16 mins / Varoma / speed 2.
- While rice is cooking turn meatballs and if drying out cover with foil for remaining cooking time.
To Serve
- Toss cooked meatballs in the teriyaki sauce. Serve with steamed rice and vegetables. Scatter sesame seeds and spring onions on top.
Notes
MINCING MEAT:
Cut meat into chunks (3cm approx.) and remove fat and sinew. It is important to remove all sinew where possible, as it does not mince well.
Meat is easier to mince when it is partially frozen. However it still works if you are not organised enough to have it partially frozen.
To mince: place approx. 250-300g of meat into TM bowl and chop 4 sec / speed 4 / Reverse.
Scrape down and repeat until desired consistency.

Absolutely delicious, made the meatballs with chicken mince and served with veg. I doubled the meatball mix (but kept the sauce the same) and now have a stash for the freezer. Thanks Leonie

Yum! Great you doubled the meatball mix Elizabeth! :)

Just made this and cooked the meatballs in my airfryer at 180 degrees for 20mins. I preheated the airfryer first. Loved buy all, I didn’t put the sauce on the meatballs for the kids, I put it on the side so they could control how much they put on them. Thanks

Thank you Diana. Pleased you all enjoyed it.

I made these for dinner tonight as I had some minced pork that needed to be used up. Very easy to do and family rly quick to make. The meat balls were very moist which was good as I thought they may be a bit dry from previous comment, I used GF bread so that may have been the reason. Veggies were nicely cooked the rice was a bit gluggy though. Thank you Leonie for a good recipe.

Thank you Dianne and pleased to hear you enjoyed it. :)

I made these using Jill's suggestion of steaming the meatballs while cooking brown rice. Worked great. I added the veg to the steamer with 15 mins to go, although this was a bit long. Mr 12 found the flavor a bit strong, so next time I would probably water the sauce down a bit more, or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce. I loved it!

Delicious! I cooked brown rice in the jug and the meatballs in the varoma- 45 min/100'C/ speed 4. Perfect!

My sometimes fussy partner who is not a fan of the TM loves this recipe. It would be his favourite after the Tuna Rice Pie. I really appreciate your lovely meals, thank you.

Thank you so much Amanda. Always great to hear that fussy partners and kids enjoy my recipes too! :) Yes my tuna rice pie is awesome if I may say so myself!! :)

This was another hit with my husband. I didn't think it would be but seeing as I am trying out so many new dishes I figured I would give this one a try. The sauce was sooooooooooo much nicer than the bought stuff - even he commented on it tasting better - FTW !!! Thanks again Leonie for changing up our meals !
thermofun says
Thank you! :) Yes this sauce is amazing!

This is a yummy overall dish that smells great and is really easy to do. I don't like baking them in the oven (maybe I make them to small) as I find they dry out to much, so tonight I steamed them with the rice and vegies or my it was delicious. Thanks Leonie for another great recipe.

Thanks Jenny. :)

Absolutely delicious! They've been on my 'to make' list for weeks, but I finally remembered to add them to the meal plan this week and buy the ingredients! Not sure if fussy miss twonager will eat them tomorrow, but hubby and I had them tonight and they were delicious! Will definitely be making these again.

Thanks Tracy. Pleased you enjoyed them. :)

Hi. I would like to cook this but on reading Tracey's comments, I would have cooked the rice and veg at the same time too. So just checking, the rice is cooked first, taken out and then cook the veggies?
thermofun says
Karen the rice is cooked at the same time as the vegetables in the varoma. Make sure you use boiling water from the kettle to start with. If you are using hard vegetables such as potato and carrot make sure they are in small bite size pieces. Then the veg will definitely cook in the 14 mins at the same time as the rice is being cooked in the basket. Make sure temp is on varoma. :)

Our family really enjoyed this one. Although I did “misread” instructions and put the rice and the veg in at the same time. Did think it was odd that I was adding in 1500gm water while I had rice in, but went ahead anyway...resulting in overflowing rice and uncooked veg!
thermofun says
oh no! :(
Pleased family still enjoyed it though Tracey. :)

This recipe was a crowd pleasure (at least my fussy family anyway). The sauce is so much better than the premade stuff. We used chicken and cooked for 25mins in oven. Thanks for a great recipe.
