Hints & Tips on Freezing/Freezer Space

Here are some great ideas on utilizing freezer space & freezing foods/ingredients.

Make sure you head to the resources section to download your freezer checklist so you know what and when it went into the freezer :D

    FREEZING FRESH HERBS

    1. Place herbs in your Thermomix bowl
    2. Add a small amount of water
    3. Chop herbs 10 sec / speed 10
    4. Place in greaseproof paper lined tray or ice cube containers
    5. Place tray or ice cube containers in freezer
    6. When set take the tray out and slice the herbs into squares and place in labelled zip lock bags, or if using ice cube containers place herb ice cubes into zip lock bags.

    FREEZING PASSATA

    Trish shares

: Let your passata cool and then pop into freezer bags big enough to lay flat.
Cathy then suggested: Standing the bag in a container makes it easy to fill if no helper.
Tania also suggested: Write on the bag with a Sharpie first before filling to remind her what it is.

    OPEN VEGETABLE BAGS

    Amanda

: A bulldog clip makes the best (and cheapest) food clip for opened frozen vegetable bags – and doesn’t go brittle in the freezer.

    STORING FREEZER BAGS

    Belinda

: I buy bulk premium beef mince meat from my butcher i.e 2 kilos for $18, I also grab a kilo of chicken, lamb, pork and when I get home I weigh out 500gms of each and place in ziplock bags and flatten and label and date.  This allows me to stock 5 or 6 kilos of variety of mince in one shelf of my freezer.  I have a quick go to, to defrost and make up a speedy nutritious meal.

    STOPPING FREEZER/FRIDGE THIEVES

    Elizabeth

: I have labelled things “eat this and die” too

If you have something to add please let us know below and I'll get it added to the list :D
